Business Challenge:

As part of its “Green with Emmy” campaign, Fox Broadcasting Company (FOX) wanted to measure the carbon footprint of the 59th Primetime Emmy Awards and find the best options to reduce the carbon footprint and overall environmental impacts of the event.

Our Approach:

  • ClearCarbon devised an approach to collect complete and accurate data from all event vendors and suppliers through the use of an electronic template.
  • In a short time frame, ClearCarbon staff received 100% response rate from suppliers and vendors supporting the event.
  • To ensure a comprehensive carbon footprint, ClearCarbon utilized several different GHG quantification methodologies to calculate the emissions resulting from a variety of direct and indirect sources.
  • In addition to measuring the event footprint, ClearCarbon worked with FOX to identify carbon reduction strategies for the event, including:
    • Energy efficiency
    • Waste management strategies
    • Bio-diesel generators & trucks
    • Green energy procurement
  • ClearCarbon recommended vendors to provide “green” solutions for the event, including a thin-film solar canopy over the 100% recycled material red carpet. UniSolar’s installation was one of the first on site renewable energy projects at a major entertainment event.

Value Created:

FOX’s “Green with Emmy” campaign significantly reduced the carbon footprint of the 59th Primetime Emmy’s. ClearCarbon’s event footprint provided a detailed breakdown of the event emissions and demonstrated the impacts of carbon reduction initiatives, including the solar panels visible below.
