Dean Foods Public Disclosure Reporting
Visit web site
Business Challenge:
In an effort to publically communicate and fully disclose their GHG inventory and reduction strategy development efforts, Dean Foods reported to the Carbon Disclosure Project’s sixth and seventh report (CDP6 and CDP7) and the California Climate Action Registry (CCAR) in 2008 and 2009. ClearCarbon worked closely with Dean Foods to clearly articulate their GHG emissions, opportunities and risks to each of these reporting platforms.

Project Details:
- ClearCarbon calculated and summarized all 2006, 2007, and 2008 GHG inventory data and manipulated outputs to be compatible with CDP and CCAR reporting websites.
- ClearCarbon also incorporated The Climate Registry’s (TCR) General Reporting Protocol inventory requirements into the methodology so that Dean Foods will be prepared to report to TCR in 2010.
- Dean Foods and ClearCarbon held multiple working sessions to outline responses to qualitative and strategically focused questions.
- Working concurrently with Dean Foods, ClearCarbon drafted text to fully explain the GHG inventory methodology.
- ClearCarbon submitted the approved Dean Foods CDP6 and CDP7 responses to the online reporting system.
Value Created:
Utilizing the depth of carbon experience available at ClearCarbon, Dean Foods was able to craft technically accurate and strategically holistic responses to CDP and CCAR. Dean Foods also successfully highlighted GHG inventory results and carbon reduction goal setting in their own corporate social responsibility report. As a publically held company, being able to communicate carbon initiatives to customers, consumers, and reporting agencies alike is a significant and valuable aspect to Dean Foods’ corporate carbon management strategy.
