Client Confidential - World Concert Tour Event Footprint
Business Challenge:
An international rock band wanted to quantify the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions for their 2007-2008 world tour with more than 150 concerts on six continents. Specifically, the band wanted to measure total emissions to determine the amount of GHGs they could offset from the tour.
Our Approach:
- ClearCarbon recommended that the band apply operational boundary conditions and include Scope 3 emissions from both staff and band travel. Fan travel was excluded from the calculations because the band did not have direct control over the audience’s transportation choices.
- ClearCarbon calculated emissions based on methodologies consistent with the WRI/WBCSD GHG Protocol for the entire tour’s electricity and onsite fuel use, ground and air travel, hotel stays, and equipment shipping.
- ClearCarbon quantified approximately 16,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e) and determined that each concert emitted approximately 100 metric tons of CO2e.
Value Created:
ClearCarbon calculated all of the tour’s GHG emissions through a complete, detailed, accurate, and transparent process to create the tour’s footprint in a manner that could be easily replicated and updated for any concert tour or similar travelling event.
